Level5 announced Rangers legend John Greig had joined the Rangers Youth Development Company Board.

The Club’s former Captain, Manager, Director and the man voted Greatest Ever Ranger by fans has always been a huge supporter of the RYDC and he has confirmed he will play an important role in their ongoing development.

RYDC – independent from Rangers and originally established as the Rangers Development Fund in 1964 with the sole purpose of providing funds for the Club – has raised more than £120 million to date.

Since 2002 all profits have been directed to the Club’s youth programme with more than £5.5 million going to the youth department in the last decade.

Ibrox icon John Greig commented: “I am delighted to join the Board of the Rangers Youth Development Company. Since 1964 they have backed Rangers Football Club in a variety of ways and it is my pleasure to assist them in any way I can.

“Fans always play Rangers Lotto, buy Stadium Bricks or purchase Rising Stars tickets and Scratchcards and it is terrific that all profits raised from these products go directly to the youth programme.

“RYDC will continue to grow and it my pleasure to assist by joining their Board. I have always had a strong relationship with them and I applaud Colin Stewart (RYDC Director of Operations) and his team for their sterling work.

“They help with the development of young players so I am delighted to lend my support.”

A number of past and current youth players like Danny Wilson, Charlie Adam, Alan Hutton, Tom Walsh, Ryan Hardie and Chris Burke have directly benefitted from RYDC support.

They rebranded at a media conference attended by current manager Mark Warburton, Youth Academy Head Craig Mulholland and young midfielder Andy Murdoch at Murray Park last month.

Young star Tom Walsh hosted a Twitter Q&A with supporters and first team forward Dean Shiels also promoted RYDC’s goals in recent weeks.

There is a full programme of activity planned in the weeks and months ahead and Colin Stewart, the Rangers Youth Development Company Director of Operations, has paid tribute to John Greig for joining him on the Board.

He added: “John is a man of great integrity and honour, his contribution to Rangers Football Club was immense as a player, manager and director and we are thrilled to have him on our Board.

“He is one of the greatest names in Scottish football history and he has always been a firm supporter of RYDC so we look forward to working with him closely.

“We have received tremendous support from the new Rangers Board and Craig Mulholland and his team at the youth department but the supporters are also key to our success and I thank them for their continued backing.”
